The English Baccalaureate Pathfinder Model.

Following recent work with Whole Education, supported by City and Guilds, we have drafted a working model that schools could trial in the coming year.  Download the pdf: The English Baccalaureate Pathfinder Framework

Some typos need to be edited out and we have lost simplicity in order to give detail…but hopefully this captures the essence.  We’ll update this post with further developments.  We are also working on some sample transcripts to show how it works for different learners.

School-Based Trial

We have decided to run a small-scale trial with 16-20 Schools and Colleges next year.

The launch event is on September 20th, Institute of Education, London, 10am – 3pm.

If you would like your school to be included in the trial, please leave a comment on this blog post with some details of your school and an email address.  We have some schools from HTRT and some from Whole Education committed and we’re looking for a few more partners in the trial process. We’d be keen to hear from a school with Level 1 or Entry Level learners post-16.

For Further Information, please also see the blog from Tom Sherrington about the process of arriving at this model.

Here are the screenshots of the Pathfinder Model in it’s current form.

  2. […] In June, HTRT will be working with Whole Education to turn our proposal into a version that could be adopted or trialled by schools now with existing qualifications.  It’s a very exciting development.  Details and invitations to sign up will be issued as soon as we’re ready. (Update: They are here) […]

The most powerful thing about this is leadership in schools taking ownership of the curriculum. The day after the government and OFQUAL publish their moribund proposals , we have a great opportunity to take the initiative; after all Mr.Gove repeatedly tells us that schools know best ! I applaud the attempt to have an overarching qualification with different pathways something that New Labour sadly ” chickened out of ” when Tomlinson was published ; a massive missed opportunity. One observation; if you could get the Russell Group and HMC on board with this , it would be immensely powerful. Well done and vive La Revolution !

Thanks Kevin. Support greatly appreciated. I’m looking forward to devising this for my own school; we’re going to trial it ourselves. Hopefully we’ll get some momentum going.

Marvellous stuff! The PDP gives total ownership to each centre allowing them to play to their strengths and needs. A huge thumbs up to all at HTRT.
